Reports to: Operations Manager Summary:
The Lead Engineer is responsible for the management of the drafting and engineering department. This includes the
successful completion of all the project site’s scope from estimating handoff through release to shop fabrication and
to subcontract vendor needs.
Hold weekly group standups with team (Drafting & Engineering)
Review ongoing work in progress for each detailer and engineer.
Document any current obstacles or information needed to complete current assignments.
Assign all engineering tasks that require completion for the week, with target completion dates.
Document and distribute assignments and dates.
Attend weekly Workload Meetings.
Discuss current department needs/concerns.
Report on current KPI’s for Drafting and Production Engineering.
Provide a minimum of 4-week schedule look ahead to verify productivity goals.
Discuss Engineering initiatives and ongoing process development projects.
Communicate daily with each team member.
Confirm progress on current assignments.
Document any questions or obstacles to completion of assigned work. Provide directions for timely
solutions. Redirect to new assignment if necessary.
Assist in creating engineering deliverables.
Provide direct labor as needed to support drafting and engineering release objectives.
This responsibility is secondary to department management but is necessary in balanced amounts.
Drive team, process and structure development.
Seek and engage opportunities for relevant personal growth to support departmental objectives.
Seek and initiate changes to streamline processes, improve efficiency and grow capacity.
Mentor team as needed to support improvements.
Manage and maintain department schedules.
Ensure that all new work is entered with dates and estimate values.
Update items daily for drawing approval statuses and engineering releases.
Administrative tasks for assigned reporting employees.
Approve time clock hours.
Approval of vacation requests.
Ensure all work is reviewed prior to submittal/release.
All submittal drawings reviewed by PM, Estimator, and assigned Submittal Engineer.
All production releases to be peer reviewed by assigned Project Engineer.
Custom fabricated items to be reviewed by custom/production team.
Ensure adherence to all engineering standards.
Drafting and CAD standards.
Server filing standards.
Engineering & production release standards.
Hold weekly meetings with Operations Manager.
Review prior week’s progress and open items.
Review next 4-weeks schedule for submittals, engineering, production, and deliveries.
Address any open personnel or schedule concerns
